Celebrating Spoil Your Dog Day

August 10th is Spoil Your Dog Day! Of course, given the option, Fido would probably insist that every day should be Spoil Your Dog Day. He wouldn’t be wrong, either! Our canine pals definitely deserve to be treated with love and kindness all the time. That said, this is a great reminder to pay lots of attention to your furry best friend, and make sure he feels loved. An Ellicott City, MD vet offers some suggestions on how to do that below.

Treats

A yummy snack will definitely get that tail going! Treats are actually beneficial for Fido, as long as you don’t go overboard with them. Stick to healthy foods, such as plain, cooked meat, fish, or poultry without the skin, bones, or fat.

Toys

Our four-legged friends are intelligent and curious. (Granted, some are more intelligent than others are, but that’s another topic.) Fido will get bored and restless with nothing to do! Pick up a new plaything for your cute pet, and spend some time playing with him. Watching a playful pooch happily bounding around is bound to make you smile!

Training

Did you know that many of our canine companions actually like learning new things? If Fido has already mastered basics, like Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Lay Down, try teaching him some more advanced commands. Or, show him some cute tricks, like Beg, Shake Paw, or Roll Over.

Baths

Given the option, Fido would probably yank this one off the list. However, regardless of his opinion on baths, he’ll be much more comfortable if his fur is soft and clean.

Photos

A freshly-bathed pup makes for a perfect photo opportunity! Try out some new effects or settings, and experiment with different angles and backgrounds.

New Bed

Fido spends about half of his time napping, on average. Get your canine buddy a comfy bed. (It’s fine if he already has one. It’s nice to have choices!)

Adventures

Man’s Best Friend loves exploring new places! Take Fido somewhere fun today. Try out a new dog park, or visit a trail you haven’t been to before.

Belly Rubs

All your faithful buddy really wants is to spend time with you. Pay lots of attention to Fido. Don’t skimp on those belly rubs, either!
