Our Careteam

Steph
Veterinary Technician
After two years of general studies in college, Steph decided to enter the field of early-childhood education. She served as a teacher’s aide in a preschool for two years, but it still felt like something was missing. That’s when Steph started to think back to what had always made her truly happy: caring for animals. She decided to dive headfirst into veterinary medicine, and she hasn’t looked back since!

Steph is from Sykesville, Maryland and attended Penn Foster College online to study veterinary technology. She joined the Marriottsville Animal Hospital team in 2019, and couldn’t be happier to start her animal-care journey right here at the clinic. Steph finds that she particularly likes monitoring pets during and after surgical procedures, and her favorite part of every shift is getting to meet pet owners and help them better care for their adorable companions.

In her spare time, Steph likes playing sports, hiking, exercising, playing the guitar and learning the piano, and spending time with her friends and family. She has one pet of her own at home: Dexter, a 100-pound Mastiff who likes to think he’s a lap dog.
Wendy, AVA
Hospital Manager/Veterinary Technician
Wendy is a Maryland native having worked in computer science as a software developer for more than 10 years. While she enjoyed the work, she started to feel like something was missing. After taking some time off to raise her family, Wendy decided to rejoin the workforce and pursue a career as a veterinary professional.

Wendy has had numerous years of experience and education in the veterinary field, working as a senior/lead technician for several veterinary clinics. Her nurturing demeanor, focus, hard work, and dedication all contribute to her defined role as hospital manager for the Marriottsville Animal Hospital team. She joined the team in 2016, and in 2018 completed an undergraduate certificate in Veterinary Practice Management.

Wendy is an integral member of the team. She assists in every aspect of veterinary technician work including advanced surgeries and procedures. She has recently become a participant of the recover initiative in basic and advanced life support program that is certified by the American College of Emergency and Critical Care through Cornell University. Wendy is always willing to provide assistance to staff, clients, and patients and welcomes everyone to their next visit!

When away from the office, Wendy enjoys spending time with her two sons. She loves cooking, dabbling in arts and crafts, and taking professional photographs. She’s taken many photography and graphic design courses over the years, and two of her photos were even chosen for inclusion in an art show!

Wendy loves her two feathered family members an African Grey parrot named Naya and a Senegal parrot, Kiwi. Amongst many fun stories between her feathered friends (whom have learned to operate light switches) you could even say they have further enlightened her interests in the veterinary field.
Jesi
Veterinary Technician
Jesi is a Maryland native having grown up in Ellicott City. She has always shared a connection with animals and has cared for a variety of species. Jesi’s younger most memorable and rewarding accounts were her experiences volunteering at local dog rescues. She always took the time to lend a helping hand and knew that she wanted to pursue her education that shared her compassion for animals.

Jesi attended the University of Maryland-College Park. Her hard work and perseverance earned her bachelors degree in the animal sciences with intent to apply to veterinary school. With immense patience and eager to move forward in her life Jesi decided to take time to obtain hands on experience in the veterinary field prior to applying.

Jesi is a welcome member of the Marriottsville Animal Hospital team. She joined the team in 2017, and as a veterinary technician Jesi helps with all aspects of veterinary procedure and care. In addition she loves interaction with clients and is always willing to go above and beyond to help.

Jesi has well rounded experience and education with many species of animals. She shares special interest in exotic-animal medicine, and loves to learn about new species and advocate for the proper care/welfare of all pets/animals.

In her spare time Jesi enjoys the arts. Jesi is an excellent artist and enjoys drawing/sketching and painting. Just as every pet parent does Jesi loves spending time with her own pets at home. She shares her home with a shy ball python named Sylvie and her whiskered family member Chip, who as all cats seem to do “rules the nest.”
Journie
Veterinary Technician/Assistant
Journie’s interest in the veterinary field began when she was younger and had the opportunity to volunteer at a local animal shelter. During that time, she and her fellow Girl Scouts organized a donation drive, and designed and built an outdoor path for the shelter dogs to run and play on. The gratitude that her troop received from members at the shelter, as well as the happiness they could see from the dogs inspired Journie to continue helping animals in any way she could!

After high school, Journie attended Salisbury University where she earned a degree in Biology. While attending college, she participated in wildlife research for warblers and spotted turtles. She also had the opportunity to intern at the Salisbury Zoo. She loved the experiences she had working with those animals so much that she decided to focus on a career in the veterinary field.

Journie joined the Marriottsville Animal Hospital team in March of 2022. The thing she likes most about her job is the fact that there is always an opportunity to learn something new. During her time here, Journie has had the chance to learn about complex cases and expand her knowledge in the field of veterinary medicine. And, of course, who doesn’t love being able to come to work and be with adorable animals every day?!

At home, Journie is ‘mom’ to three pets of her own: cats Leo and Cleopatra, and dog named Jackson. Leo was rescued several years ago after his owner sadly passed away, and Cleopatra was adopted from a local shelter. Jackson and Leo are besties. The two spend most of their time lying side by side and gazing out their favorite window. Meanwhile, Cleopatra can usually be found curled up on a cozy bed or someone’s lap.

When she’s not busy working or caring for her pets, Journie enjoys running. She recently ran her first 10k and won first place in her age group. She also likes crafting – particularly crocheting and painting, and she especially loves creative projects that are dedicated to her fur-babies.
